I am looking for information on buying a spindle motor for the grinder as opposed to using the large motor in the base to run both the spindle and table. A 1 hp motor is recommended for the spindle motor. A 1/6 hp motor is all that is recommended to run just the table. I should be able to find the 1/6 hp motor without a problem.

Even cheap electric motors use a wave spring to load the bearings to prevent the balls from skidding in the races. RPM above 5000 will need oil lubrication

I would not be removing the spindle motor unless there was a very good reason to do so. The top bearing can be replace without removing the motor completely. The bottom bearing is a challenge and even then I would at least try to get the chuck off the motor shaft while the motor is still on the grinder.
